Designation - Senior IT Engineer (Linux)


Objective of job 

Second line Infrastructure incident diagnostics and support as well as assisting with infrastructure enhancements and testing specific to KYCnet services for a new key Equiniti client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quick, efficient and professional responses to all KYCNet major incidents.
  • Perform incident infrastructure level fault diagnostics to determine incident root causes and implement fixes.
  • Work as part of a team with existing KYCNet and Equiniti group engineers to grow infrastructure understanding and drive fault diagnostic and resolution efficiency.
  • Enhance existing IT infrastructure components and configuration as required by defined projects tasks
  • Develop new infrastructure components as required by defined projects tasks
  • Work standard UK work hours but also be part of a team responding to OOH call out escalations for major incidents if required.
  • Prepare and update system documentation and infrastructure test schedules as and when necessary.
  • Enable basic KYCNet specific infrastructure understanding for service desk and Avman team colleagues to help them correctly triage incidents and provide accurate information.  

Qualification & Skills

Mandatory

    • Good working knowledge of working with high-availability clusters
    • Intermediate knowledge of writing and debugging shell scripts
    • Good working knowledge of MySQL and other components of the LAMP stack
    • Good knowledge of IP-based networking and security (e.g. SSH, firewalling, VPNs)
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating systems – Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2012
    • Exposure to TCP/IP and Network connectivity

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Ability to remain calm and perform sound best practice fault diagnostic processes when under pressure.
    • Desire to learn and ability to transfer and absorb new skills.
    • Ability to work proactively with little direct supervision.
    • Sound, proven troubleshooting skills
    • Willingness to be part of an OOH rota to support service when required.

 Desirable

    • Knowledge of Ubuntu
    • MCSE or MCSM certification
